The Open Relationship Roadmap

Experience a depth of connection that most couples simply haven’t engineered yet.

Non-Monogamy by Design.

When my husband and I first opened our relationship, we were flying blind. We spent years figuring out the boundaries, the triggers, and the triumphs through trial and error. I built this Relationship Roadmap because it’s the tool we wish we’d had at the start of opening our relationship—a structured guide to prompt the deep thinking and honest conversations that keep a partnership thriving while it grows.

Opening up shouldn’t feel like walking through a minefield without a map. After 12 years of partnership—nine of those navigating Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM)—I’ve learned that the right conversations change everything.

But before we dive into the logistics, I want to be clear about one thing: You are not a “bad” person for wanting this, and this choice is not a sign that you don’t love your partner. In fact, it’s the opposite. Opening a relationship isn’t a fix for a weak foundation; it is a choice made from a strong one. It requires the kind of profound love that is brave enough to expand. This journey demands deep self-reflection, the courage to hold tough conversations, and a resilient sense of self.

If navigated with intention and safety, this process won’t just introduce you to new people—it will lead to a deeper, more resonant connection with your primary partner and, most importantly, with yourself. You aren’t just opening your relationship; you are expanding your capacity for intimacy.

My Journey

12+ Years of Partnership.
9+ Years of Intentional Openness.
One Proven Framework.

The Foundation
My name is Jessica Amen, and my husband and I have been together for over twelve years. Over a decade of building a life, a home, and a shared history. But nine years ago, we chose to evolve. We decided to transition our relationship into Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM)—and while we knew we had the love to do it, we quickly realized we didn’t have the map.

The Missing Piece
In those early years, our growth was reactive rather than intentional. Without a clear framework, we were forced to navigate complex emotions only after they became crises. We realized that while love provided the foundation, it didn’t provide the logistics. We didn’t need more abstract advice; we needed a repeatable system to manage the “operational” reality of an open life.

Designing Beyond the Default

For most of us, monogamy wasn’t a choice we made; it was the “default setting” we inherited. But when you look at the history of the modern relationship, you realize that the rigid, lifelong monogamous model we recognize today is a relatively recent social and economic invention—one designed more for land ownership and lineage than for long-term emotional fulfillment.

We are living in the first era of human history where we get to ask: Does this structure actually serve my partnership?

When my husband and I decided to open our relationship nine years ago, we weren’t just changing the “rules.” We were stepping away from a legacy system that didn’t account for our growth as individuals.

The “Roadmap” isn’t about being anti-monogamy; it’s about being pro-intent. It’s about taking the tools of modern communication to dismantle the “shoulds” and replace them with a structure that actually holds the weight of your real life.

As a digital and film producer with over 20 years of experience, my career has been defined by taking complex, high-stakes visions and turning them into organized, successful realities. I realized that thriving in an open relationship requires that same level of “production”: clear communication, solid infrastructure, and a shared roadmap.

I created the Relationship Roadmap for the couple we used to be. I’m here to help you skip the “guessing” phase. By combining a decade of lived ENM experience with the high-efficiency systems I’ve used in professional production, I provide a clear, step-by-step curriculum for couples ready to design their own rules.

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all relationships. I believe in helping you build the communication engine that allows your specific partnership to flourish, no matter how you choose to define it.
